PETALING JAYA:
A teacher accused of sexual misconduct at a school in Johor has been transferred to a district education office while authorities investigate the case.

In a statement, the Johor education department (JPN) said it was working with the welfare department to protect the victim and ensure her well-being.

It was previously alleged that the teacher had returned to teaching despite multiple reports lodged over the case, including with the police and the Public Complaints Bureau.

“We will not compromise when it comes to sexual misconduct. Action will be taken against wrongdoers,” JPN said.

It also urged members of the public involved in similar cases to lodge police reports to facilitate investigations.

It was reported in the New Straits Times yesterday that a 12-year-old pupil had admitted to school authorities that she was involved in a sexual relationship with a male teacher at the school.

The teacher was allegedly reassigned before later returning to active teaching duties.

Seri Alam police chief Sohaimi Ishak said the teacher had been remanded for six days.

He was arrested at 10.30pm yesterday after the victim’s mother lodged a police report.

The case is being investigated for touching a child’s body part for sexual purposes.
