The Rembau MP and Rantau assemblyman said menteri besar Aminuddin Harun had effectively lost the confidence of the majority after 14 Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblymen withdrew their support for him.
“If Aminuddin no longer has the confidence of the majority of assemblymen, it is best for him to seek the dissolution of the assembly.
“Let’s not keep making a fuss about it. The world is already unstable with wars, so we should act appropriately,” Berita Harian reported him as saying today in Seremban.
He added that Umno and BN are in the unity government to lead the state and country together, and not to create public unease.
Mohamad proposed that a state assembly meeting be held immediately to allow Aminuddin to prove that he still holds the confidence of the majority as menteri besar.
Last month, all 14 Umno-BN assemblymen in the state withdrew their support for Aminuddin over his handling of the controversy involving four chieftains who sought to remove the Yang di-Pertuan Besar, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, from office.
However, Umno’s central leadership later ordered the assemblymen to continue supporting the state administration.
FMT previously reported a source in the know as saying that Pakatan Harapan and Umno had agreed to defer the state assembly meeting for six months, preventing any attempt to unseat PKR’s Aminuddin in the legislature.
Once the state assembly reconvenes, Aminuddin could face a challenge to his position through either a motion of no confidence or the defeat of a state government bill.
