Ex-Damansara MP Tony Pua is being investigated over a Facebook post which touched on the constitutional monarchy system and the Rukun Negara.
PETALING JAYA:
Former Damansara MP Tony Pua has given a statement to the police to assist in their investigation into his Facebook post on the Rukun Negara and constitutional monarchy.

Pua, the DAP disciplinary committee chairman, said he turned up at the Petaling Jaya police headquarters at 4pm today and spent about 40 minutes giving his statement.

He had offered to give his statement at the Shah Alam police headquarters tomorrow morning, but the investigating officer had insisted on recording Pua’s statement today.

“I affirmed that I had written the Facebook post myself, without duress from any other party. When asked of the intent of the post, I responded that it was to share my views of the Rukun Negara.

“When asked of the meaning of the post, I replied that it was per what was written,” he said in a Facebook post.

Pua added that he was told over 80 police reports had been lodged against him nationwide.

The DAP leader is being investigated for statements conducive to public mischief and improper use of network facilities.

In his post, Pua said the powers of the monarch were limited to defined aspects such as Malay customs, Islam, and constitutional roles like the appointment of menteris besar, and approval for the dissolution of state assemblies.

He also said Malaysians did not “live in a system whereby the monarch can issue binding decrees which legislate all aspects of our lives”.
