Sng said that when he took charge of Selangor PBM following Zuraida Kamaruddin’s departure, leaders from the state chapter were invited to events and given “some degree of recognition”.
Zuraida, a former PKR vice-president, joined PBM in May 2022 but was sacked in December that year after failing to respond to a show cause letter.
Sng said that after he handed over the reins to a senior vice-president, Selangor PBM had not been able to get any further support from the Pakatan Harapan state government, despite continuing to work alongside them.
“Since they are unable to expand their network and are financially unstable, they have decided to leave for greener pastures,” he said in a Facebook post today.
He was responding to news reports that the Petaling Jaya division of PBM resigned en masse this afternoon “to do more, serve more effectively, and be part of a political platform that better reflects the aspirations of the people”.
Danish Firas, who was the Petaling Jaya PBM chairman before leaving the party, said the division’s decision to resign had nothing to do with Sng.
Danish also said the division had 200 members.
However, Sng said there were 488 registered members in the seven divisions in Selangor, with 14 in Petaling Jaya.
He thanked those who had resigned for their time and service in PBM.
“If they want to take me as a scapegoat to promote their standing with Rafizi, then go ahead. That’s the least I can do for them,” he said, referring to Rafizi Ramli, who said he was quitting PKR this week to take over Parti Bersama Malaysia.
“In general, politics isn’t straight forward and along the way, people will be disappointed. Since they were not popular in PBM, let them try their luck in a ‘new PBM’.”
Sng had previously said the few leaders who quit the party a couple of days ago had made a mistake.
