In a statement, Danish Firas, who was the Petaling Jaya PBM chairman prior to quitting the party, said the division had 200 members.
He said the division’s decision to resign had nothing to do with its president Larry Sng.
“This move should not be viewed as an act of hostility. The departure is based on political direction, future alignment, and the division’s desire to continue serving the public more effectively,” he said.
He added that the division believed politics should be “rooted in action, service, and meaningful reform”.
Today’s resignations follow the departure of several leaders at the state and division level.
Among those who handed in their resignations was Krishna Govinth, the Selangor PBM secretary, who said more leaders would follow suit.
On Monday, Sng told FMT that those who resigned had made a mistake and that he expected other people, including notable politicians, to replace those who left.
Sng also said he would not welcome those who resigned back into the party’s fold.
Krishna said Sng’s response underscored a failure to acknowledge the reality that a lack of cohesive leadership had led to the “exodus of capable, dedicated leaders and grassroots members”.
