Klang Selatan police chief Lim Jit Huey said the accident occurred along Persiaran Kota at about 12.30am.
A man in his 30s was driving a Perodua Bezza from Port Klang towards Shah Alam when he allegedly entered the wrong lane and continued driving against traffic for 3.5km before colliding with the motorcycle which was travelling in the correct lane.
“As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist, a man in his 20s, was thrown from his bike and suffered serious injuries to his body and right leg.
“The victim received critical treatment in the red zone at Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang. The car driver sustained only minor injuries,” he said in a statement today.
Lim said an initial screening test found that the driver was under the influence of alcohol.
The driver was arrested and police obtained a remand order until tomorrow from the Klang magistrates’ court.
The case is being investigated for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, causing injury, an offence punishable by a jail term of between seven and 10 years, a fine of RM30,000 to RM50,000, and the suspension of driving licence.
A one-minute, five-second video showing the car driving against traffic went viral on social media.
