Seremban police chief Azahar Abdul Rahim said the husband and wife, in their 40s and 30s, were nabbed yesterday at a madrasah in Hulu Langat, Selangor, where they were believed to be hiding.
He said the complainant was a 56-year-old businessman in the property development sector who claimed the couple had duped him into purchasing land purportedly alienated by the Selangor government.
The victim said he was offered the opportunity to purchase several plots of land in Cheras, Selangor, which he was promised would be granted by the state government.
Azahar said the victim then started dealing with the male suspect and made several financial transactions for the land purchase.
He said the male suspect allegedly used his father and wife’s bank accounts to receive payments totalling RM1.5 million.
The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
