Firefighters rescue teen sitting on edge of Penang Bridge

The Perai fire and rescue department says a team talked to the 17-year-old boy and calmed him down.

GEORGE TOWN:
A 17-year-old teenager was led to safety after firefighters talked to him as he sat on the edge of the Penang Bridge today.

The Penang fire and rescue department said they received a report at about 3pm about the teenager sitting on the edge of the bridge in the direction heading to the island.

He said a team which arrived shortly afterwards talked to the teenager and calmed him down before he agreed to follow their advice.

The rescue operation took 30 minutes, he said in a statement, adding that the teenager was handed over to the police for further action.
