PETALING JAYA:
The Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission has recommended that disciplinary action be taken on 27 immigration officers and personnel who visited an entertainment centre in Kuala Lumpur last year.

Members of the group from the immigration department’s Kuala Lumpur and Selangor branches were identified by a team from the Bukit Aman narcotics crime investigation department on April 26, 2024, said EAIC in a statement.

EAIC noted that the immigration department prohibited its officers and personnel from being in “high-risk” areas such as entertainment centres, massage parlours, gambling premises, or similar locations that could cause suspicion or create a negative perception.

The agency also pointed out that several of the officers and personnel involved were scheduled to have been on duty at the time, but were instead present at the entertainment centre.

EAIC added that the immigration department did not comply with its own SOPs related to probes it conducted in connection with the incident.

The agency said the results of its investigation were referred to the public services department with a recommendation for disciplinary action against the officers and personnel involved.

EAIC cited offences such as negligence in performing duties, irresponsibility, dishonesty, and lack of trustworthiness.

The agency also referred its recommendation for disciplinary action to the immigration department’s disciplinary authority board for disobedience or “behaviour that can reasonably be interpreted as disobedience”.

EAIC recommended that the officers and personnel be transferred if they have served in the same location for more than five years.

It also directed the officers and personnel involved to ensure payments were made for any services received at the entertainment centre to avoid allegations of corruption.
