PETALING JAYA:
Three Japanese nationals were arrested at KLIA early yesterday morning on suspicion of smuggling 12kg of cocaine.

The drugs, which were found hidden in packages of anchovies and dried shrimp, were worth an estimated RM2.4 million.

The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency said its officers detected suspicious images while scanning the men’s luggage after they arrived from Bangkok, according to Sinar Harian.

A physical inspection of one of the six suitcases and several backpacks revealed cocaine hidden among vacuum-packed anchovies and dried shrimp.

A full inspection of all six bags uncovered a total of 12kg of cocaine.

The three suspects were arrested for drug trafficking under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. The case has been handed over to the customs department’s narcotics division for further action.
