Selangor fire and rescue department operations assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said a distress call was received at 1.47pm, and a team from the Selayang fire station was immediately deployed.
“The victim had already been pulled out by members of the public before the fire and rescue personnel arrived at the scene,” he said in a statement today.
There were no reports of anyone being injured.
In a statement commenting on the incident, Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) said the collapse involved a temporary steel canopy used for works on Road Under Bridge (RUB) No 16 along the MRR2.
It said the canopy was installed to catch construction debris and support work on RUB No 16, which was completed in October, and was set to be dismantled on Nov 20 after receiving approval from the relevant agency.
“As a safety precaution, all construction work in the affected area has been halted pending a thorough investigation by the relevant authorities,” the company said.
“The cleaning and removal of the temporary structure have been successfully carried out under the supervision of the authorities.”
MRL also said it will provide immediate financial assistance to the affected vehicle owner, while awaiting investigation results and claims processing.
“We appreciate the attention and cooperation of all parties regarding this incident and apologise for any inconvenience caused,” it added.
