Penang DOSH issues stop-work order after fatal construction site mishap

Dislodged plywood causes foreign worker to fall from 6m.

The Penang department of occupational safety and health has issued a stop-work order on a construction site at the Bukit Minyak Industrial Park, pending compliance with safety requirements after a foreign worker died following an accident on March 19.

Its director, Hairozie Asri, said a load of plywood being hoisted by a crane became dislodged and struck the worker, causing him to fall from a height of about 6m.

He said the man died at Seberang Jaya Hospital on March 24.

“The victim, an employee of a subcontractor, was carrying out roofing installation when the mishap occurred at about 10.40am.

“The accident reflects a serious failure in workplace safety management,” Bernama reported him as saying today.
