Police say the 38-year-old man’s refusal to take his medication may have triggered hallucinations leading to the attack.

PETALING JAYA:
A man who allegedly beheaded his brother-in-law at Kampung Pida 3 in Jerlun, Kedah, on Friday is believed to have refused psychiatric treatment for the past five months.

Kedah police chief Adzli Abu Shah said the suspect had also refused to take his prescribed medication, which may have triggered hallucinations leading to the attack.

“The suspect held a psychiatric treatment card, but had refused to receive treatment for about four to five months. This likely caused him to experience hallucinations and develop false suspicions towards the victim.

“According to his family, he previously received treatment at Alor Setar Hospital after suffering from depression since 2021 during the Covid-19 pandemic,” Bernama reported him as saying today.

Adzli said the suspect has been remanded and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Kubang Pasu police chief Radzi Abdul Rahim had said that neither the victim nor the suspect had any criminal record.
