This follows the smooth implementation of the Budi Madani RON95 and diesel subsidy programmes.
Deputy finance minister Lim Hui Ying said the targeted subsidy approach will be implemented more comprehensively to prevent leakages and ensure that assistance reaches only those who truly need it.
“At present, the government’s priority is to ensure the smooth rollout of the targeted diesel and BUDI95 programmes, which serve as the foundation for a broader subsidy restructuring,” she said during the question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat.
Lim was responding to an additional question from Syerleena Abdul Rashid (PH–Bukit Bendera), who asked whether the government planned to extend targeted subsidies to other essential items such as sugar, rice and cooking oil to ensure they only benefit the intended groups.
Lim added that to ensure subsidised goods such as sugar, rice and cooking oil reach the target groups, the government had intensified joint enforcement operations with other agencies, particularly through Op Tiris and Kita Gempur.
She said the government will also ensure the availability of subsidised goods such as sugar, rice and cooking oil at every Rahmah Sales programme.
“For 2025, the Rahmah Sales programme has been expanded to twice a month in each state constituency, compared to at least twice a month in each parliamentary constituency previously,” she said.
