Kota Melaka Bersatu chief Hishamuddin Karim said PAS, as Bersatu’s main partner in Perikatan Nasional, could help ease tensions in Bersatu.
Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan was sacked by Bersatu recently for allegedly violating the party’s constitution and code of conduct.
Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal was also suspended for the same reason.
Wan Saiful has said the current dynamics show that PAS now sets the tone for the coalition’s direction, with Wan Fayhsal stating that Bersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin is better placed to lead PN as he has the backing of PAS.
In a statement today, Hishamuddin said an official statement from PAS would help clarify the situation in Bersatu and prevent further confusion caused by individuals allegedly linking the names of PAS leaders to justify their actions.
“I appeal to PAS, as PN’s main partner, to exercise wisdom in helping to defuse this confusion,” he said.
“Several individuals have repeatedly linked the names of PAS figures to justify actions that contradict party discipline.”
Hishamuddin also thanked PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan for expressing concern about Bersatu’s internal stability ahead of the Sabah state election.
He said Takiyuddin’s comments reflected the sincerity of PN’s partners and should be appreciated as a show of support.
“The statement should be appreciated as a gesture of concern from a fellow PN component party towards Bersatu’s stability ahead of the Sabah polls,” he said.
Takiyuddin said yesterday the internal issues within Bersatu, including the recent sacking of several leaders, have, to some extent, affected Bersatu, especially as it prepares for the Sabah state election.
In a Harian Metro report, Takiyuddin said it was important for all PN component parties to maintain stability and remain focused on their shared goals.
He said that while he did not have detailed information to comment on the recent disciplinary action at Bersatu, any organisation facing an “internal crisis” will have its activities affected.
“We call on our friends in PN, not just Bersatu, as other parties are also facing their own internal issues … This is not the right time to be dealing with such problems. Instead, we must stabilise our positions and hope that all these matters can be resolved amicably,” he said.
