PETALING JAYA:
Police have arrested a man for allegedly circulating obscene photos of his 17-year-old ex-girlfriend via WhatsApp.

Kajang police chief Naazron Yusof said the 40-year-old suspect was arrested at 9.35pm on Sunday in Saujana Putra after police received a report from the management of a private college last Thursday.

The college management had lodged the report regarding the distribution of obscene and humiliating photographs, believed to belong to a former student.

The photographs were circulated in a WhatsApp group for the college’s students.

“Acting on information, police arrested the victim’s former boyfriend, who is unemployed, and seized a mobile phone to assist with the investigation,” Bernama reported Naazron as saying.

He said the suspect was remanded for three days until tomorrow to assist with the investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for insulting one’s modesty and improper use of network facilities, respectively.

Naazron also urged those with information on the incident to contact any nearby police station or assistant investigating officer Siti Aidah Yem at 010-2176278 to aid the investigation.
