Titi Tinggi assemblyman Izizam Ibrahim said these internal clashes, which have led to calls for Muhyiddin to step down as Bersatu president, should be resolved harmoniously.
“I hope the party president can get everyone to come together and resolve the issue amicably for the sake of the party’s interests,” Izizam said in a statement.
“I urge the party president to look into and resolve this issue wisely without influence from those driven by personal interests.
“As the Padang Besar Bersatu chief, I hope a fair and harmonious resolution can be achieved without profiting anyone in particular, for the sake of unity and to safeguard the party’s future,” he said.
The Perlis executive councillor also said it was important to preserve good ties with Bersatu’s main Perikatan Nasional ally, PAS, stressing the importance of making decisions collectively and not unilaterally in the coalition.
During Bersatu’s general assembly last month, Muhyiddin revealed that there were certain quarters collecting signatures to oust him, prompting a small group of delegates to shout and urge him to step down.
The turmoil in the party has led to the sacking of Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan and the suspension of Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal.
Wan Saiful had however accused several figures close to Muhyiddin of straining ties among top leaders, singling out Bersatu secretary-general Azmin Ali and information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz.
Recently, Bersatu Supreme Council member and Indera Mahkota MP Saifuddin Abdullah joined in calls for Muhyiddin to give up the top post, leading to his removal as Pahang PN chief.
