Johor cops detain parents of boy slashed in neck

Police have detained the parents of a six-year-old boy who sustained a slash wound to his neck to assist in investigations.

Batu Pahat police chief Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said the couple, both aged 41, were arrested at the district police headquarters at 4pm today, Berita Harian reported.

The police are investigating the case under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for abusing, neglecting, abandoning, or exposing the child in a way that is likely to cause physical or emotional injury.

Additionally, the case is also being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt using dangerous weapons or means.

Earlier today, Shahrulanuar said the boy was in stable condition after undergoing surgery but was still being kept at the Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital for further treatment.

Yesterday, Shahrulanuar said the victim’s mother reported the incident at 9am, having found her son injured when she woke up at 5.30am.
