Upside-down national flag on car draws police attention

Immediate action was taken to correct the position of the Jalur Gemilang, says Pontian police chief.

A car owner in Johor took immediate action to restore an upside-down Jalur Gemilang on the vehicle after police intervened today.

Pontian police chief Shofee Tayib said there had been a public reaction after a Facebook post showed a car with an upside-down national flag parked in front of a furniture shop in Jalan Besar, Pekan Nanas.

“The act caused various reactions among the community. However, the vehicle owner has fully cooperated throughout the initial investigation and immediate action was taken to correct the position of the flag,” he said in a statement today, Bernama reported.

“Police also wish to remind all agencies, business premises and individuals to ensure that the display of the Jalur Gemilang is done in accordance with the procedures and protocols set as a sign of respect for the country’s sovereignty,” he said.
