Penang cops looking for driver who killed woman in hit and run

Police are looking for the driver of a car that killed a woman while she was crossing the road in a hit and run at Simpang Ampat in Nibong Tebal, Penang, yesterday.

Seberang Perai Selatan police chief Jay January Siowou said the incident reportedly happened at 7.35pm while the woman was crossing from Taman Belibis to Simpang Ampat.

He said the woman suffered severe injuries to her head and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was sent to Sungai Bakap Hospital.

“We are trying to identify the pedestrian,” he said. “We are also checking CCTV footage to see if there are witnesses and to identify the vehicle,” Bernama reported him as saying.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
