It is understood that her parents did not realise she had been left in the car after they returned home from breakfast, Sinar Harian reported.
Gua Musang police chief Sik Choon Foo said the child was found unconscious inside the vehicle and was taken to Gua Musang Hospital, where she was later confirmed dead.
“A post-mortem conducted by a forensic pathologist confirmed the cause of death as heatstroke,” he said.
He said an investigation is ongoing, and the case has been classified under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for neglect or exposing a child in a way that is likely to cause physical or emotional injury and as a sudden death report.
