KUALA LUMPUR:
Deputy prime minister Fadillah Yusof has called for greater Asean unity and collaboration to accelerate the region’s clean energy transition and strengthen regional connectivity.

Speaking at a gala dinner held in conjunction with the 25th Asean Energy Business Forum (AEBF) 2025 and the Asean Energy Awards ceremony, Fadillah said the region’s collective achievements demonstrate “Asean’s determination to accelerate the clean energy transition, deepen regional connectivity, and chart a pathway towards a sustainable and prosperous future”.

He said the 43rd Asean Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM) had concluded with key milestones, including the endorsement of the enhanced memorandum of understanding on the Asean Power Grid, the Asean Petroleum Security Agreement, and the Asean Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) 2026-2030.

“These outcomes are more than policy documents. They are tangible proof of our mutual trust and shared vision,” he said.

Fadillah, who is also the energy transition and water transformation minister, emphasised that Asean’s diversity is its strength.

“Although Asean is diverse in culture, language, and history, we are united by a single vision – a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable future for our people,” he said.

The evening also celebrated winners of the Asean Energy Awards 2025, who received trophies recognising their excellence in renewable energy development, energy efficiency, and innovative practices.

Guests at the gala dinner enjoyed captivating performances by the Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (MPYO) and celebrated Malaysian artistes such as Aina Abdul, Siti Nurhaliza and M Nasir.

Fadillah took the opportunity to invite those present to the upcoming Visit Malaysia Year 2026, highlighting the country’s “rich culture, heritage, breathtaking landscapes, and vibrant diversity”.

“Tourism, like energy, is about connection. It enriches visitors while also protecting and preserving the environment and heritage that define us.”

“Let us carry forward the spirit of Malaysia Truly Asia, where every visit is more than a trip – it is a journey of the heart,” he said.
