PETALING JAYA:
The education ministry has formed a special committee to investigate the fatal stabbing of a Form 3 student at SMK Bandar Utama Damansara (4) this morning.

In a statement, education minister Fadhlina Sidek extended the ministry’s condolences to the victim’s family and said a team of counsellors had been mobilised to provide psychosocial support to the entire school community.

Noting that the suspect had been arrested with the case currently under police investigation, Fadhlina said the ministry would extend its full cooperation to the authorities throughout the probe.

Petaling Jaya police chief Shamsudin Mamat said the 16-year-old victim was stabbed multiple times by the 14-year-old perpetrator, who is also a student at the school.

Two sharp weapons believed to have been used by the suspect were confiscated. No one else was harmed.

The motive of the murder is still under investigation, but Shamsudin said initial investigations did not uncover any element of bullying.

No ‘racial elements’, says Selangor MB

Separately, Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari said he was informed by Selangor police chief Shazeli Kahar that the case did not involve any “racial elements”.

“School should be the safest place for our children … As a father with daughters of my own, I cannot begin to imagine the pain the victim’s parents are going through,” he said in a statement.

“I extend my deepest condolences to them and pray that they will be given strength and protection as they face this horrific tragedy.”

He said the state government would work closely with the police, education ministry, and local communities to immediately enhance safety at all schools across the state.

Amirudin also said measures to improve school security and strengthen mental health support for students would be discussed at the upcoming state executive council meeting.

“These measures will be decided and implemented quickly to ensure the safety of our students,” he said.
