
He said it would be unfair for the police to comment on the accused’s mental condition, as that falls under the jurisdiction of psychiatric experts.
“We need to refer to the relevant specialists. Physically, he appears to be fine. That’s all I can say for now.
“I was informed that he had been undergoing counselling sessions to help improve his learning methods and not for mental health treatment,” Harian Metro reported him as saying.
Responding to claims that the school had failed to take action despite being aware of the student’s behavioural problems, Shazeli said the issues were related more to his learning ability.
“The school did know (that the suspect had issues), but they were not related to this particular incident,” he said.
Shazeli said the suspect had been cooperative and is assisting police in the investigation.
A student was stabbed to death at SMK Bandar Utama Damansara (4) at around 9.30am on Tuesday morning.
Police said the suspect attacked the victim multiple times with two sharp weapons, both of which were later confiscated by investigators.
Petaling Jaya police chief Shamsudin Mamat said the motive was still under investigation but there were no signs of bullying involved.
