He said a post-mortem conducted at Penang Hospital confirmed the cause of death.
Azizee said the victim, a 31-year-old man of Chinese descent, was identified by his family as the person reported missing since Wednesday after failing to return home from an outing.
Although Azizee did not name the deceased, Sinar Harian quoted the victim’s father as confirming his identity as Lee Boon Han, 31, an insurance agent.
Azizee said a man found the suitcase behind the Ampang Jajar flats on Jalan Permatang Pauh, Mak Mandin, Butterworth and alerted the police to it at 1.45pm yesterday.
He said the victim’s body was found bound and gagged, with neck injuries, tied hands, and his head covered with plastic.
Police believe he was killed elsewhere before being placed in the suitcase and dumped at the scene.
