PETALING JAYA:
A rally in solidarity with the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) in Kuala Lumpur today turned tense after participants pushed Federal Reserve Unit personnel blocking them from gathering in front of the US embassy.

The rally had started off peacefully but became chaotic after several participants started shouting at the policemen, demanding that they remove the blockade heading to the embassy, Utusan Malaysia reported.

Several people could be seen throwing eggs towards the embassy’s main gate, while some pushing and shoving broke out between participants and FRU personnel.

Police defused the situation without any arrests being made, as they urged the rally-goers to calm down.

Thousands had reportedly gathered at the Tabung Haji building on Jalan Tun Razak at about 2pm before marching towards the US embassy to protest Israeli forces’ interception of the flotilla in the Mediterranean Sea.

Protests have broken out outside the US embassy since yesterday, with police arresting two participants for allegedly obstructing officers from carrying out their duties. They were later released on bail.
