Perak police chief Noor Hisam Nordin said the 50-year-old suspect was arrested in the compound of the Kerian police headquarters around 4.30pm on Tuesday, Bernama reported.
“A mobile phone was also seized, and the suspect has been remanded for a week until Oct 7 to assist in the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
“The suspect has no prior criminal record but tested positive for drugs,” he told reporters after an event honouring 115 policemen in Perak retiring this year.
Noor Hisam also confirmed that the post-mortem results on the 43-year-old victim concluded the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the chest.
Police had previously arrested two men, aged 32 and 33, in Kampung Selamat, Semanggol, at about 12.30pm on Monday. One of them is a relative of the victim.
The third suspect, aged 36, was arrested in Batu Caves at 8.30pm the same day.
Investigations found that one of the suspects, who was with two other men, shot the victim after mistaking him for a game animal while hunting in Batu Caves at about 8pm on Sunday.
Noor Hisam said that the trio conspired to take the victim’s body to Semanggol in a vehicle accompanied by two other vehicles. They then abandoned the victim’s body by the side of an unpaved road.
Police previously seized a Toyota Vellfire, a Mazda and a Toyota Hilux, two homemade rifles and 11 12-bore bullets as well as four mobile phones.
