PETALING JAYA:
Police have recorded statements from seven witnesses in their investigation into the crash at the Bukit Kajang toll plaza on Saturday that killed a one-year-old boy, says Kajang police chief Naazron Abdul Yusof.

He said police are looking into taking action against the company employing the lorry driver involved in the crash.

“The lorry driver’s remand ends tomorrow. An investigation paper has been referred to the deputy public prosecutor and the suspect will be freed on police bail until all reports and analyses have been received,” he told reporters on WhatsApp this evening.

Following the lorry driver’s arrest on Saturday, Naazron had said the suspect has a criminal record with three cases related to drug and criminal offences, as well as four summonses for traffic violations in 2013 and 2016.

He said the man’s urine test came back negative for drugs and alcohol, and the case is being investigated for reckless or dangerous driving causing death.

The incident, which also involved two SUVs and a car, claimed the life of a one-year-old child.

An adult man who was pinned under the same SUV was rescued and taken to hospital. The remaining seven injured victims were also sent to hospital for treatment.

Naazron said one of the victims, who was severely injured, had been transferred to Putrajaya Hospital, while another is still receiving treatment at Kajang Hospital.
