In a statement, Asheeq said Wan Saiful’s revelation of “new information” regarding an explicit video allegedly linked to Azmin could not be taken lightly.
He said police must take Wan Saiful’s statement on the source of the information he claims to have.
At a press conference earlier today, Wan Saiful said Azmin is unfit to lead Bersatu so long as the controversy surrounding a 2019 video, purportedly of the former minister engaging in homosexual acts, remains unresolved.
After several clips surfaced in 2019 allegedly showing Azmin with another man at a hotel in Sandakan, Haziq Aziz, the Santubong PKR Youth chief at the time, released a video confession naming himself and Azmin as the two men in the clips.
Azmin, who was then the economic affairs minister and PKR deputy president, denied the allegation and claimed that it was a plot to end his political career.
CyberSecurity Malaysia later concluded that the clips were authentic, but said facial recognition of the individuals involved could not be achieved due to the poor resolution of the recordings.
The recordings were also sent to forensic experts in the US, who confirmed the findings.
