Brickfields police chief Hoo Chang Hook said the unit’s owner had tried to contact the tenant but failed to get in touch with her, Berita Harian reported.
The condominium’s management later detected a foul smell coming from the unit, prompting the owner to contact the police.
“After forcing the door open, police found the deceased in the bathroom,” he said, adding that the body had started to decompose.
Hoo said the house was locked from inside and the woman’s personal belongings were still in the unit.
He said she had been living there alone since early this year and was believed to be running an online business selling clothes.
He said the owner last contacted her on Sept 4 over rent arrears.
“Police will take statements from the family members,” he said.
An autopsy will be held today and the case has been classified as sudden death.
