PETALING JAYA:
Police today arrested a 32-year-old man suspected of molesting a 10-year-old girl in a public toilet on Jalan Jambu Air, Taman Iris, in Kulai, Johor.

Kulai police chief Tan Seng Lee told Bernama the incident occurred at about 7.30pm on Sunday when the victim was in the toilet.

He said they received a report on the incident on Sept 14 from the girl’s grandfather.

A team of officers and personnel from the criminal investigation department’s intelligence and operations branch, from the Kulai police headquarters, arrested the suspect in the Kulai area at 5.45pm today.

“Checks revealed that the suspect has three prior convictions related to sexual crimes.

“Investigations are ongoing to determine the possibility of his involvement in other cases in and around the district,” Tan said in a statement today.

Tan said the suspect will be brought to the Kulai magistrates’ court tomorrow to be remanded.

The case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years’ imprisonment and whipping on conviction.
