ALOR SETAR:
Perikatan Nasional’s Supreme Council will meet in about a week’s time to discuss its prime minister candidate for the 16th general election, says coalition chairman Muhyiddin Yassin.

Muhyiddin, whom Bersatu named as its prime minister candidate last week, said the PN Supreme Council will meet as soon as PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang was available.

He added that Hadi would need some time to rest after PAS’s 71st muktamar, which ends tomorrow.

Muhyiddin reiterated that all PN components had the right to nominate their prime minister candidates, but the final decision will be made by the coalition’s top leadership council.

“I have already informed Tan Sri Tok Guru (Hadi) that we will hold a PN Supreme Council meeting and that the matter will be deliberated there.

“We take an open-hearted approach and want to steer clear of issues. So we will discuss and if a majority decision is reached, we will accept it,” he told reporters on the sidelines of the PAS muktamar here.

Muhyiddin was nominated as the party’s prime minister candidate for the next nationwide polls at the Bersatu general assembly last week.

However, PAS moved a motion at its muktamar over the weekend to “lead PN and have a PAS prime minister candidate”.

Separately, Muhyiddin dismissed claims that relations between Bersatu and PAS had grown cold, saying that those making such claims were envious of how united PN had become.
