PETALING JAYA:
Barisan Nasional will send a letter to MIC for an explanation over a youth leader attending Bersatu Youth’s annual general assembly in Shah Alam yesterday.

BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said MIC must submit a written explanation since Bersatu is part of the opposition, Sinar Harian reported.

He also said the MIC leadership would be left to take any disciplinary action under party rules.

“They will also be asked by the BN secretary-general (Zambry Abdul Kadir) to provide a written explanation for sending a representative,” he was quoted as saying after an event in Bagan Datuk, Perak, today.

“This is inappropriate … no representative of a BN component party should attend a conference organised by a party outside the Madani government, whether in a personal or official capacity.”

Yesterday, MIC deputy youth chief K Kesavan attended the Bersatu Youth wing’s annual general meeting.

MIC deputy president M Saravanan also confirmed with FMT that the party was invited to attend and that Kesavan was their “representative”.

The invitation comes amid speculation that Perikatan Nasional is attempting to court MCA and MIC to join its coalition.
