Kedah deputy police chief Baderulhisham Baharudin said Asmadi, 50, who lodged a report at noon yesterday, was informed on Sunday of the two accounts using his name, image and voice generated with AI.
“The two accounts registered under the names @chegumadi and @cheggumadi are believed to have been created by irresponsible parties for a financial scam,” Bernama quoted him as saying today.
Baderulhisham said Asmadi was concerned the accounts would be used to deceive the public in matters involving financial aid.
“Police, particularly the commercial crime investigation department, urge the public to remain vigilant against online scams promising financial assistance.
“Do not be easily swayed by offers or appeals made through videos featuring politicians or celebrities.
“Checks can be made via the Semak Mule portal, or by contacting the National Scam Response Centre at 997 for verification,” he added.
