PETALING JAYA:
Police have dismissed claims that the woman who rushed onto the main stage during the Perak state-level National Day celebration yesterday morning and ran towards Sultan Nazrin Shah was Chinese.

Bukit Aman criminal investigation department (CID) director M Kumar said the claim was false as the suspect was a 41-year-old Malay woman.

“Perak police are aware of a viral Facebook post claiming that a Chinese woman was arrested after a woman stormed the main stage during the Perak state-level National Day celebration.

“The person arrested was a 41-year-old local Malay woman. A urine test of the suspect returned negative for drugs,” he said in a statement.

Perak police chief Noor Hisam Nordin yesterday said the woman has a criminal record with a prior drug-related case and is currently under specialist supervision for her psychiatric condition.

Kumar said the woman is being investigated under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt and Section 511 of the Penal Code for attempting to commit an offence.

As for the spread of the false information, Kumar said investigations have commenced under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for statements likely to cause public alarm and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities or services.

“Police warn that stern action will be taken against any party who intentionally makes or spreads false statements that cause public concern and disrupt social harmony in Malaysia,” he said.
