PETALING JAYA: A 48-year-old mechanic has been sentenced to 20 years in prison and 10 strokes of the rotan by the Muar sessions court after being convicted of raping his stepdaughter in 2022.
Judge Sayani Nor ruled that the defence had failed to raise reasonable doubt on the charge and ordered the man to serve his sentence from the date of his conviction today, Berita Harian reported.
The man was charged with raping his stepdaughter when she was 12 at a house in Simpang Renggam, Kluang, at 7am on Aug 8, 2022.
The charge under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code is punishable by up to 30 years in prison and at least 10 strokes of the rotan if convicted.
His lawyer Mandave Singh Gill said they would file an appeal at the High Court.
Sayani granted the man’s application to stay the execution of the sentence pending the outcome of the appeal but raised the bail amount from RM6,000 previously to RM11,000.
