Muhyiddin must apologise too over claims against govt, Anwar says

He says these include claims that his administration did not provide funds for opposition-led Kelantan.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim previously said he would have no issue apologising to Muhyiddin Yassin for any mistake on his part.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim today said that Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin would have to apologise as well for slanderous claims levelled at the government.

“These claims include that the government is cruel and that it did not allocate funds for Kelantan, and a hundred more such claims,” he told reporters after attending the Asean Law Forum here.

Anwar told the Dewan Rakyat last week that he was waiting for the results of a Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) investigation to determine if three sources of information he had referred to in remarks on Muhyiddin were false.

If MCMC confirmed that the sources were illegitimate and he had made a mistake, he said he would have “no problem” apologising to Muhyiddin.

Anwar reportedly said that Muhyiddin, the Bersatu president, had questioned the government for burdening foreigners who had also made significant contributions to the country.

The prime minister said the government had decided on targeted subsidies for electricity and RON95 petrol so that it could continue helping Malaysians while reducing the nation’s fiscal deficit.

Muhyiddin denied making such a statement and urged Anwar to furnish proof that he had.

Anwar then asked MCMC to look into his claim and take the appropriate action, as part of “upholding transparency and responsibility”.

In July, deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi rubbished claims by a PAS leader that the federal government was obstructing development in Kelantan and neglecting the east coast state.

Zahid said that Anwar would announce allocations for Kelantan each time he visited the state.

He also said that the federal government would come to Kelantan’s aid whenever floods struck the state.
