PETALING JAYA:
An animal welfare group has called for immediate action to be taken by the authorities after a dog was purportedly found skinned alive in an industrial area in Krubong, Melaka.

Persatuan Haiwan Terbiar Malaysia (SAFM) urged the police and the department of veterinary services to investigate the case without delay, describing the act as inhumane and brutal.

“This is a clear case of animal cruelty, and the perpetrator must face the full force of the law,” SAFM said in a Facebook post.

It pointed out that animal cruelty was an offence punishable by a maximum three-year jail term, or a fine of up to RM100,000, or both, if convicted under the Animal Welfare Act 2015.

The group also appealed to the public to assist in the investigation by coming forward if they have any information about the incident.

Melaka Tengah police chief Christopher Patit said they are looking into the matter.
