KUALA LUMPUR: One million units of affordable homes will be built between 2026 and 2035, according to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
He said these homes would be delivered under the Residensi Madani programme, civil servants’ housing scheme, new home construction assistance programmes, and various affordable housing schemes under state governments and private developers.
“Initiatives like the Housing Credit Guarantee Scheme will be expanded to allow more lower- and middle-income groups to own their own homes,” he said when tabling the 13th Malaysia Plan in the Dewan Rakyat today.
Anwar added that 180,000 units had been built while 235,000 were under construction, but noted that housing prices and incomes were not growing at the same pace.
