PETALING JAYA:
The preacher who was recently arrested by police over the distribution of sex videos had his teaching credentials revoked in 2022, says the Selangor Islamic religious council (Mais).

Mais chairman Salehuddin Saidin said the man was previously detained by the Selangor Islamic religious department (Jais) in September last year for preaching without authorisation, Kosmo reported.

“He committed an offence under Section 119 of the Administration of Islamic Law Enactment (Selangor State) 2003,” he was quoted as saying.

“The case is still at the trial stage at the syariah lower court. A surau administrator is also under investigation for allegedly facilitating the unauthorised lecture.”

Yesterday, Shah Alam police confirmed the preacher’s arrest following allegations that he had distributed explicit videos involving himself, his wives, and other women.

The investigation began after a report was lodged by the man’s second wife on June 16, claiming he had shared the content with others.

The suspect was remanded for four days and released on police bail yesterday.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.
