PETALING JAYA:
Muda secretary-general Amir Hadi has stepped down from his post and the party’s top leadership, citing personal reasons.

He has been replaced by Muda central executive committee member Ainie Haziqah, formerly of PKR and Bersatu.

Amir said he chose to resign from the Muda leadership to focus on his role as executive director of Mandiri, a youth-based NGO.

The party’s co-founder said he would continue to support Muda from the sidelines.

“I believe that Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman’s acquittal from his court charges will act as a catalyst and a new beginning for the party to face the challenges ahead, starting with the Sabah state election and then the 16th general election (GE16).

“As a co-founder of Muda, even though I am no longer part of it, I remain a strong supporter and have full confidence in the current leadership to steer the party forward,” he said, urging Muda members to give Ainie their full support.

Separately, Muda said Ainie’s appointment was decided by the leadership at a meeting on June 25, describing it as part of a broader move to streamline preparations for GE16.

It expressed gratitude to Amir for his service, and said it would continue to stand by him in his ongoing court case linked to the Peaceful Assembly Act.

The party also said it was in the midst of implementing “procedures” for its first internal elections, slated for this year, subject to approval from the Registrar of Societies.

“The upcoming party election is expected to strengthen Muda so that it can continue to represent the aspirations of a progressive and diverse Malaysian society,” it said.
