Bernama quoted Iskandar Puteri police chief M Kumarasan as saying the 14-year-old girl and her grandmother, in her 70s, both Chinese nationals, were at home at 11.30am when a man confronted them and demanded that they hand over their valuables.
The man was then involved in a scuffle with his victims and fled empty-handed.
“Both victims sustained injuries and were referred to the hospital for treatment,” Kumarasan said.
Acting on information received, a team from the Iskandar Puteri police headquarters’ criminal investigation department, together with officers from the Tanjung Kupang police station, arrested a suspect at about 2.30pm.
The suspect has two convictions for criminal offences. The initial urine test came back negative for drugs.
The suspect has been remanded for seven days and is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt when committing robbery, an offence punishable by up to 20 years’ imprisonment, a fine or whipping, if convicted.
