PUTRAJAYA:
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says Brunei’s Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah is in good condition after being admitted to hospital yesterday due to fatigue.

The 78-year-old sultan was admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur, where he is expected to remain under observation for several days.

“I’m sorry I’m late … I went to IJN to visit the Sultan of Brunei,” Anwar said at an event here.

“He is currently resting… (and) he is in good condition.”

He was speaking to reporters at the closing of the Asean Auditors Conference 2025 at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.

In a statement later, he said the sultan’s medical team had advised against visitors for the time being, except for members of the Brunei royal family.

Yesterday, reporters had inquired about the sultan’s absence from the Asean-Gulf Cooperation Council-China Summit amid reports that he had been admitted to IJN.

The sultan occupies multiple key roles in Brunei, serving as prime minister, finance minister, and defence minister, among others.
