Jewellery shop robber detained by members of public in Melaka

A 27-year-old man was detained by members of the public after robbing a jewellery shop on Jalan Bunga Raya here today.

Melaka Tengah police chief Christopher Patit said the suspect was handed over to police officers at 12.30pm.

“We received a call from an individual informing us that a man had been detained by members of the public after robbing a gold shop,” he said in a statement.

A body search of the suspect found five gold chains weighing about 15.35gm and a hammer.

Patit said the suspect, who tested negative for drugs, was sent to Melaka Hospital for treatment for injuries to his legs, hands and head before being placed in lockup at the Melaka Tengah police headquarters for further investigation.
