PUTRAJAYA:
The local government department has been instructed to track down a TikToker who allegedly spread false information and defamatory videos about the MyKiosk project on social media.

Housing and local government minister Nga Kor Ming said his ministry would also file reports with the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission soon.

He said ministry staff were collecting videos containing the allegations, which have been circulating online.

“If you dare to spread false information, be prepared to face the consequences,” he told reporters after the pre-launch of the 2025 Minister’s Excellence Awards and Media Excellence Awards ceremony at the ministry here today.

Nga also said he was open to any investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission into the project.

Pahang MCA Youth was reported to have expressed readiness to walk into the MACC office alongside DAP members to assist in the investigation into the RM250 million MyKiosk project.

Its chief, Wong Siew Mun, had asked why the government was paying RM25,000 to RM34,000 per kiosk when the market price was only RM12,800 per unit.

Nga said the RM25,000 figure being used to criticise the project was misleading, as it included the cost of solar panels, fans, stoves, transportation, installation, and location set-up.

“That’s why we conducted an open tender process. I also checked with the Taiping and Ipoh municipal councils. Some suppliers offered prices of between RM13,000 and RM15,000.

“I believe this is the most transparent way to do it,” he said.

Nga previously denied claims that the project under his ministry was a white elephant, calling the allegations baseless.

He said the majority of kiosks had already been occupied, with only a small number yet to begin operations.

The MyKiosk initiative by the housing and local government ministry aims to provide the B40 group and micro, small, and medium enterprises with standardised, safe, and affordable trading spaces for rent.

As of December 2024, a total of 7,243 MyKiosk units had been approved across 133 local councils nationwide, benefitting more than 7,000 families.
