PETALING JAYA:
A police officer with the rank of assistant superintendent pleaded not guilty at the Kota Bharu sessions court today to two charges of accepting bribes totalling RM13,500 in 2018.

Firdaus Mohamad, 40, who is currently attached to the internal security and public order department at the Kelantan police headquarters, entered his plea before judge Dazuki Ali, Sinar Harian reported.

According to the charge sheet, Firdaus allegedly accepted free home renovation services worth RM9,000 from a contractor while serving as the head of the criminal investigation division at the Machang police headquarters between January and June 2018.

He is also accused of receiving RM4,500 as a down payment for a high-powered Kawasaki Versys motorcycle from the same individual at the same station in January that year.

The charges were framed under Section 165 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both, upon conviction.

The prosecution was led by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy public prosecutor Tengku Nurul Haziqah Yacob while Firdaus was represented by lawyer Azura Ghazali.

The court allowed bail of RM8,000 with one surety and ordered Firdaus to report to the MACC office once a month and to surrender his passport to the court.
