PETALING JAYA:
Bentong police arrested an army corporal yesterday afternoon to help in an investigation after a soldier was severely injured in a beating at the 25th Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment camp on Monday night.

Bentong police chief Zaiham Kahar said a report was lodged by the victim’s father at 8.45am yesterday.

He said initial investigation found that the corporal had allegedly punched and kicked the victim in various parts of the body.

“The 24-year-old victim is receiving treatment at Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital’s intensive care unit in Temerloh, Pahang. He remains unconscious and on respiratory support,” he said in a statement tonight.

Zaiham said six other victims, aged 19 to 22, were also assaulted in the incident and have been referred to Bentong Hospital to be examined for injuries.

The 37-year-old corporal has been remanded until April 4 for investigation under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.

Zaiham urged the public not to speculate on the case and gave an assurance that Bentong police would thoroughly investigate the matter.
