Cops tracking down others linked to gang leader shot dead in Penang

Police are tracking down several other people believed to be linked to the gang leader killed in a shootout at Jalan Lintang Bukit Jambul, Bayan Lepas, Penang, yesterday.

Penang police chief Hamzah Ahmad said the gang was involved in various types of crimes, including armed robbery, house break-ins and self-service laundrette thefts in the state, Bernama reported.

“Investigations are ongoing, including on the eight we arrested yesterday and we are obtaining further information regarding their activities,” he told reporters today.

The gang leader was killed in a shootout with the police at about 4.05pm.

The 35-year-old man had 34 previous criminal convictions, 15 related to narcotics.
