Hilir Perak police chief Bakri Zainal Abidin said police would call FRU members who were at the scene of the accident, as well as the owner of the lorry company to aid the investigation.
“This is to avoid biased investigations and so on. I also call on the public to come forward to provide information that can assist our investigation.
“We will look at (the investigation) from all angles, namely human negligence, technical issues involving the vehicle, as well as environmental issues,” Bernama reported him as saying today.
Bakri said an FRU member from Unit 5 Ipoh was placed in Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital’s intensive care unit due to internal bleeding and head and abdominal injuries.
He said eight more injured FRU personnel are still being treated at Teluk Intan Hospital.
Earlier this morning, the final honours for the nine who died were completed in accordance with police ceremonial protocol at the FRU Unit 5 base in Sungai Senam, Ipoh.
In the 8.50am incident yesterday, a lorry carrying gravel collided with an FRU truck transporting 15 personnel.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the accident was caused by a steering wheel failure.
