This means that Anwar Ibrahim, who has been party president since 2018, is all set to retain the post for the 2025-2028 term.
Zaliha said the youth chief’s post, currently held by Adam Adli, is also not being challenged.
In a statement this morning, she said 104 candidates are in the running for positions in the central leadership committee, 85 for the youth committee, and 62 for the Wanita PKR committee, in the party polls taking place on May 23.
“This encouraging participation proves PKR is not short of new talent, and further strengthens the party’s position as a platform for struggle that always provides space for new figures to uphold the party’s internal democracy,” she said.
Zaliha said there will be an objection period on May 11 and 12, and appeals for said objections on May 13 and 14.
“The final list of candidates will be confirmed on May 15. Official campaigning will begin immediately after and end on May 22 at 11.59pm,” she said.
Rafizi Ramli previously also confirmed that he will defend his PKR deputy presidency, after numerous leaders stated their support for Nurul Izzah Anwar to contest the post, and some also calling for Saifuddin Nasution Ismail to jump into the fray as well.
Saifuddin however said he will not contest any positions, citing a desire to focus on the party’s broader political struggle.
In a Facebook post early today, Negeri Sembilan menteri besar Aminuddin Harun also confirmed he will be defending his position as PKR vice-president.
